Gander Mountain opened Aug. 12 in the second phase of RiverGate shopping center. The second store to open will be Pier 1 on Aug. 18.
Gander Mountain spokesman Jess Myers said a three-day grand opening weekend is planned Aug. 22-24, but details are still being finalized.
Gander Mountain is a 45,600-square-foot store at 13610 Hoover Creek Blvd. The store is the ninth Gander Mountain in North Carolina and will have one of the largest selections of new and used firearms in the state, along with gear for hunting, fishing, camping and archery.
Along with the outdoors store, RiverGate has several large stores coming with its $20 million expansion along N.C. 160. Michaels, Ulta Beauty, HomeGoods, Pier 1 Imports, Versona Accessories, TCBY and Truliant Federal Credit Union all are signed on.
Pier 1 will open Monday, Aug. 18, said spokesperson Chrissy Madison.
Madison said details are being worked out but special events will be planned.
“In celebration of the new store opening, customers through Aug. 20 will receive a free reusable bag and an iconic Pier 1 Imports backscratcher,” she said.
Michaels craft store will open Aug. 31 at 13540 Hoover Creek Blvd. A ribbon cutting at 9:45 a.m. precedes a 10 a.m. opening, with more than $1,000 in gift cards and prizes given out throughout the day. Games and a photo booth also are part of the celebration.
“We are thrilled to be joining the Charlotte community, and we hope everyone will come out to help us celebrate during our grand opening week,” said district manager Bill Hopper.
The almost 18,000-square-foot store will employ more than 60 people.
Bonnie Little, property manager at RiverGate, expects an Aug. 29 opening for Ulta and Sept. 28 for HomeGoods. Efforts to confirm those dates with the companies were unsuccessful by press time Friday.
Childress Klein Properties broke ground earlier this year on the The Shops at RiverGate South, a 22-acre development adding 150,000 square feet beside the RiverGate at N.C. 160 and 49. RiverGate opened in 2006, and has 600,000 square feet of retail space and is home to The Home Depot and Target, among others.
