A York man was stabbed with a box cutter while defending a woman after a stranger inappropriately touched her at a Rock Hill motel, police say.
Police were sent to the Executive Inn on North Anderson Road at about 1:50 a.m. Tuesday after a woman staying there reported that she heard people yelling that someone had been stabbed inside room 311, according to a Rock Hill police report. Police were unable to find anyone inside the room, but spoke to nearby renters who said they too heard a loud argument, but did not see anything.
Dispatchers later called police, informing them that Joseph Gose, 24, of York, had gone to Piedmont Medical Center to receive treatment for a stab wound to his side, the report states. Police found three small drops of blood in front of room 312 and discerned the identity of the person who rented the room. Officers also found a box cutter on a grassy hill near the back parking lot, along with droplets of blood on a nearby leaf.
Police went to the hospital and spoke with a witness, 26, who told them the man staying in room 312 inappropriately touched her, the report states. She returned to her room, where she told family members about the incident. She left the room again to retrieve her pocketbook and Gose, a relative, watched her. Outside, the woman watched Gose and the man who touched her get into a scuffle. Once the fight was over, Gose realized he was stabbed. His family drove him to the hospital.
Both Gose and the woman were able to identify the suspect on a photo lineup.
Marcus Hardrick was arrested Tuesday afternoon and charged with assault and battery, second degree.
