A Rock Hill woman told police that a man sporting a camouflage shirt and pants tried stealing her purse at gunpoint Tuesday night, but he ran after she hit the panic alarm on her car and threatend to get her own gun.
Police at about 10 p.m. were sent to a Jefferson Avenue home, off Saluda Street, after the woman, 66, told police she had just arrived home when the man approached her and pointed a long black gun at her, according to a Rock Hill police report.
The man told her to give him her purse. The woman told him she would get her gun, the report states. In the process, she hit the panic alarm on her car.
The would-be robber ran, the report states, possibly in the direction of State Street. Police canvassed the area, but could not find him. The woman described the suspect as a black man between the ages of 17 and 25, 5 feet 10 inches tall, about 160 pounds.
