A Lake Wylie man police stopped in Rock Hill on Saturday because he allegedly made an illegal lane change carried more than 260 bars of Xanax in Tupperware, his pockets and a tin box with his name written on it, authorities said.

Police patrolling Old York Road at about 7 p.m. noticed a light blue 1996 Ford Ranger make an illegal left turn from Miller Pond Road onto S.C. 161, according to a Rock Hill police report. Police stopped the vehicle on S.C. 274 and spoke to the driver, Taylor Hoover, 18, of Lake Wylie.

Hoover, who police said appeared confused and disoriented, was slow to respond to questions and officers had to repeat instructions before he replied.

Hoover told police he had taken his prescribed Adderall. After he failed several field sobriety tests, police arrested Hoover, who told officers he had Xanax in his pocket. Officers found a plastic container containing 10 bars of Xanax in his back pocket and three Xanax bars in his front right pocket. After searching his truck, police found a tin container with 107 Xanax bars, a Rubbermaid container with 44 Xanax bars and another tin can with 99 Xanax bars inside. In total, police found 264 Xanax bars worth 1,056 individual doses.

Xanax bars are bundles of the drug packaged and shaped in bars and worth 2 milligrams.

At the jail, Hoover told police he smoked marijuana an hour before the traffic stop and he had taken a Xanax bar earlier that morning, the report states. He also had $1,830 cash in his pocket.

Police charged Hoover with driving under the influence and possession of Schedule IV drugs with the intent to distribute.
