A Lancaster man was arrested after police received information about a plot to commit a kidnapping and murder.
Joseph Ray Hegler, 19, was charged with attempted murder and attempted kidnapping, according to a release from the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office.
Officers received the information about the plot on Sunday and opened an investigation into Hegler. Officials say Hegler had been planning to kill a man for several weeks and planned to kidnap and kill him on Sunday night.
Investigators stopped Hegler’s car, according to a statement. He was wearing rubber gloves and “was armed with a number of weapons,” including duct tape, handcuffs, a flashlight, a skinning knife set, a change of clothes, trash bags, bleach, gasoline and an axe, according to the release.
Deputies said that Hegler was angry with the man over a woman.
Hegler is being held at the Lancaster County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.
