A Rock Hill man who once babysat a woman’s children allegedly pulled a machete from the “small of his back” and slashed her with the blade Thursday evening after an argument over money, police say.

Police went to the woman’s home at Innsbrook Common apartments off West Main Street after receiving calls about a man attacking a woman with a machete at about 6:40 p.m., according to a Rock Hill police report. The woman, 53, wrapped a towel around her left arm and told police that Jerammie Tavaris White, 35, arrived at her house and her daughter, 10, let him in because she knew him.

The woman told police White never lived with her, but he used to babysit her children, the report states. As she and White began to argue about money, White allegedly pulled a machete from the “small of his back.” The woman put her left arm out to defend herself as White slashed at her. The woman’s daughter tried calling police, but White noticed her and knocked her to the ground. The girl told police she injured her head and twisted her ankle.

Police found White at his mother’s apartment. He told police the machete was in his closet, the report states. White also had blood stains on his clothes, police said.

He was arrested and charged with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature and third-degree assault and battery.
