Police arrested a man after an assault that left a “large puddle of blood on the living room floor” of a York home, according to a York police report.
Ira Dewitt Hayes, 53, York, was arrested on a charge of second-degree assault last week following an incident that left a York woman with “several lacerations” on her head and face, the report said.
According to the report, officers responded to a 911 hang-up call near SC 321 bypass and saw a man walking toward the road. Officer described Hayes as appearing to be “intoxicated or under the influence of narcotics.”
A woman, covered in blood and still bleeding, walked out of the home. The report states that Hayes began to resist arrest, shouting profanities and talking about an unknown earlier incident unrelated to the assault. Officers noted that Hayes appeared to be confused.
The woman told police she lost consciousness during the incident. Police also found a pool of blood in one of the rooms of the house where the attack reportedly took place. She was transported to Piedmont Medical Center for medical attention.
Officers noted the woman appeared to be intoxicated as well and, once in the ambulance, became disorderly herself.
