A homeless man who apparently lived in a “carnival” trailer on a Clover woman’s property is accused of sexually assaulting the woman’s daughter last year and then confessing to what he did in an appeal for help, deputies say.

Deputies on Wednesday arrested Burt Edgar Temple, 49, charging him with first-degree criminal sexual conduct, according to York County jail records. He is held without bond.

In November, a woman told deputies that after she returned home from shopping, her 9-year-old daughter claimed that Temple sexually assaulted her, according to a York County Sheriff’s report. The girl told her mother that Temple had molested her in the past.

When the woman confronted Temple, he admitted to the allegations and claimed that he needs help, the report states. The woman told police Temple lived in a “carnival” trailer on her property. The girl received treatment at Piedmont Medical Center. Deputies began investigating before they charged Temple this week.
