A Charlotte woman accused of stealing more than $400 worth of perfume from a Rock Hill store on Wednesday asked police if she could go free if she returned the merchandise, authorities say.

The manager of Ulta Beauty at the Manchester Village Shopping Center told police that a woman placed perfume in her pink purse at about 2 p.m., according to a Rock Hill police report. Police confronted the 34-year-old woman and told her she had been seen shoplifting at the store.

The woman asked police if she could go free if she gave the items back, the report states. The answer was no. Police arrested the woman, charging her with shoplifting.

Police returned the five bottles of perfume that the store valued at $419.
