Deputies are asking for the public's help in identifying a man who broke into an Indian Land used-car dealership and stole two cars only to abandon one of them at Walmart while he made a getaway with another suspect on Thursday.
At about 5 a.m., deputies say a man wearing a hat, white tank top, shorts and shoes broke into the Bernard Motorcar Company on Charlotte Highway, according to a Lancaster County Sheriff's news release. Once inside, the suspect grabbed two sets of keys in the office and got into a 2005 two-door Mini Cooper.
He drove away, the report states, only to return 15 minutes later and steal a 2002 Dodge Durango.
Investigators found the Mini Cooper in the Walmart parking lot, the release states, but the Dodge Durango was missing. Deputies say it was last seen going northbound on Charlotte Highway into Mecklenburg County. Video surveillance from Walmart shows that two suspects left the parking lot inside the Dodge Durango.
Deputies have released available surveillance photos with hopes someone might be able to identify the suspects. Anyone with information about the suspects is asked to call the Lancaster County Sheriff's Office at (803) 283-3388 or contact Crimestoppers at 1-888-Crime SC (1-888-274-6372).
