Rock Hill woman arrested after hit-and-run accident with child in the car

Police: A woman was charged with unlawful conduct towards a child and leaving the scene of an accident.

A Rock Hill woman was arrested Thursday after police say she fled the scene of an accident on Celanese Road when she had a child in the car and tried to hide her vehicle in an apartment complex.

A York County sheriff’s deputy found Kayla Eddington, 23, in her car in the Heather Heights Apartments after being on the lookout for a car that had been involved in a hit-and-run crash on Celanese Road. Eddington had hit a tree and a fence behind the apartments, according to the Rock Hill police report.

Eddington told officers she was scared and left after the accident. An 8-year-old child was in the car with her at the time of the accident. When officers found her, she had dropped the child off and then drove behind the apartments to try and hide the car.

A woman was injured in the crash, the report states. The deputy who found Eddington told Rock Hill officers she had been drinking.

Although Eddington failed three field sobriety tests, her blood alcohol level was only measured at .07. The legal limit is .08. She was charged with leaving the scene of an accident, unlawful conduct towards a child and driving with a suspended license.
