Authorities say a piece of construction equipment was vandalized sometime Monday night or Tuesday morning at Spencer Park, where Rock Hill officials are planning to open a new dog park area on Saturday morning.

Rock Hill Police say someone broke the window of a road grader vehicle at Spencer Park. The incident was reported Tuesday morning after someone noticed the damage, according to a police report.

No arrests have been made.

Officials plan to celebrate the grand opening of the Spencer Park dog area at 10 a.m. Saturday. It is the first off-leash dog park in Rock Hill.

Spencer Park is city-owned and operated by Rock Hill’s Parks, Recreation and Tourism Department. The recreational park is on Eastwood Drive near Belleview Elementary School.

City officials say other areas of Spencer Park outside of the fenced-in dog area will continue to serve all residents.

Over the past several months, Spencer Park has undergone a few upgrades to prepare for more families and pets. The park’s old tennis courts have been removed to make room for the dog park. The city also paid for parking and entrance improvements and a new fence.
