A Rock Hill man may have tried robbing a family member of gas to drive away with a stolen vehicle, according to police.

The 31-year-old victim was sleeping in her gray Dodge 1500 pickup truck early Friday morning. She slept in the vehicle after she couldn’t unlock the front door to her Brice Street residence. When she awoke, she saw a man she recognized as her cousin inserting a hose into her gas tank, a Rock Hill Police report states.

The victim went to confront him, but the suspect hit the driver’s side with the hose and fled on foot, police say. It is unknown how much gas was taken.

Earlier, a woman told police that the same suspect had stolen her blue Buick Rendezvous, the report states. Police found the Buick abandoned on Simrill Street with an empty gas can nearby.
