A Rock Hill woman may have burglarized two homes — including her own mother’s — on the same day last week, according to police.

Miranda Sims, 20, was accused by her mother of stealing miscellaneous items from her Malone Place home. The items include clothing, a silver and black Smith & Wesson 9mm magazine, and $300 in cash, a York County Sheriff’s Office report states.

Later that day, a woman living at a Forest Hills Circle home reported that she saw Sims leaving her residence with two unknown people in a gold Ford Taurus. She found that her back windows had been busted, but nothing had been taken, the report states.

Sims’ mother called police believing Sims to be the suspect of the burglary. Investigators obtained prints from the window and they matched the prints on file for Sims.

The victim’s roommate received a call from Sims, admitting to the theft and told police she was staying at a hotel on Cherry Road. Police arrived at the motel and found Sims. She allowed them to search her motel room and they found the stolen items.

Sims admitted to the two burglaries, saying she took what belonged to her to prepare for her grandfather’s funeral. She was arrested and charged with burglary, petit larceny and malicious injury to real property valued at less than $2,000.

Sims remains in jail Wednesday afternoon at the Moss Justice Center on a $10,470 bond. She also faces drug charges.
