A Clover man is accused of pointing a paintball gun at a woman and stealing her cellphone at a Waffle House restaurant in York.
A 19-year-old woman met Eric Nathan Hughes, 20, at a party Friday night and he followed her and some friends to the Waffle House on Old York Road, according to a York Police report.
Hughes reportedly tried to speak with the woman, and he became mad when she refused his advances. Hughes allegedly struck the victim and took her phone in the struggle, the report states.
Hughes confirmed to police that an argument had started at the Waffle House, and he said he left to avoid any confrontation. The victim and her friends followed Hughes in an attempt to retrieve the phone. Hughes told police he had the paintball gun in the vehicle, and pointed it at the victim.
Police found Hughes driving a blue Ford Explorer on Charlotte Street in York and conducted a traffic stop. During a vehicle search, police found a black Tippmann replica paintball gun on the driver’s side. The 19-year-old’s cellphone also was found, the report states.
Hughes was charged with larceny and pointing and presenting a firearm and transported to the York County Detention Center. He was released on a $5,000 bond Sunday afternoon.
