A 12-year-old boy is suspected of walking around with a BB gun and stolen jewelry in his possession, according to a Rock Hill Police report.
A woman saw the boy near the J.C. Penney at the Rock Hill Galleria on Dave Lyle Boulevard Tuesday evening, removing what appeared to be a black handgun from a bookbag and concealing it in his waistband, the report states.
She called Rock Hill Police and told them she last saw the boy walking toward Rack Room Shoes.
A detective found the boy at the store, approached him at gunpoint and asked if he had a weapon.
The boy said he had a BB gun in his waistband, the detective said. The detective detained the boy and took possession of the BB gun.
Jewelry was found inside the boy’s bookbag that appeared to have been stolen, the report states.
A loss prevention employee at the Walmart on Dave Lyle Boulevard told police that the boy would wander inside the store and steal items. Whenever the boy was approached, police say, he would run away.
The boy was taken home to his mother, police say. Charges for the jewelry will be determined after police sort out the shoplifting incidents.
