Steve Novacek, an assistant volleyball coach at Winthrop last year, has accepted a similar position at North Dakota State.
Novacek, a native of Buffalo, Minn., was a graduate assistant at St. Cloud State in 2005 and an assistant coach at Minnesota-Duluth.
Chuck Rey has been hired at Winthrop to replace Novacek. An announcement from the athletics department is expected soon. Rey comes to Winthrop after spending last season as a volunteer assistant at the University of Minnesota and one year as an assistant coach at Georgia Southern University.
According to a bio posted on the Winthrop athletics Web site, Rey also served as a men's club team coach at Georgia Southern, where he guided that team to the national tournament. He was also involved in USA Junior Olympic Volleyball as head coach of the Low Country Volleyball Club from 2003 to 2007.
Rey served as an assistant high school volleyball coach for two years. He received a bachelor's degree Roosevelt University in Chicago in 1996 after playing volleyball at Arizona State.
