Golf tourney to benefit Teen Health Center

From staff reports

Rock Hill Country Club will host its annual Carolinas Golf Association Pro-Am on Friday, featuring at least 25 or more teams playing for a good cause.

The tournament, sponsored by Williams and Fudge, will benefit the Teen Health Center. It's the first time, according to head professional John Hughes, the tournament has been conducted as a charitable event.

“I'm tickled with this,” Hughes said. “Williams and Fudge is able to give something back to the community during some tough times, and we're hoping to continue to do that.”

The tournament features professionals from the lower part of North Carolina and the Upstate of South Carolina. They'll compete in their own event, while teaming with three amateurs who will play one best ball for a combined gross and net score.

Hughes, Fort Mill's Chris Tucker, who has played on the PGA Tour, Gary Troyan, Terry Johnson and Todd Ellison will be among the pros competing.

Play begins with a noon shotgun start and will be followed by an awards ceremony.

Hughes said he's expecting 25 or 26 teams.

While the team slots are filled, there are some openings remaining for individual amateurs who have a verifiable USGA handicap.

Anyone interested in playing should contact Bobby Stroup at 327-7790.
