Eight players advanced from the qualifying event to the main draw of the Rock Hill Rocks Open, which begins today at the Rock Hill Tennis Center.
Jacqueline Cako, Marina Giral Lores, Claire De Gubernatis, Lena Litvak, Ani Mijacika, Grace Min, Petra Rampre and Ashley Weinhold will join 24 other players in the main draw.
Main-draw singles matches will take place each morning through Friday, beginning at 9 a.m. Doubles matches will follow.
The singles semifinals will be 10 a.m. Saturday, followed by the doubles semifinals. The singles final will be Sunday at 10:30 or 11 a.m. The doubles final will follow.
The Rock Hill Rocks Open is a $25,000 women's USTA Pro Circuit tennis tournament sponsored by the City of Rock Hill. All matches are at the Rock Hill Tennis Center, and fans can watch for free.
Six women players ranked between 100 and 200 in singles in the world are in the main draw. Players are from the United States, Canada, Austria, Russia, Croatia, Georgia, Venezuela, Israel, Bolivia, Japan, Brazil, Portugal, New Zealand, France and several other countries.
The highest-ranked player is Varvara Lepchenko of Allentown, Pa., who is ranked No. 102 in women's singles. Sharon Fichman of Toronto is ranked 135th.
