Ten players, including No. 1 seed Varvara Lepchenko, advanced in singles play to the second round of the Rock Hill Rocks Open on Wednesday.
Lepchenko, of Allentown, Pa., is ranked 102nd in the world in women's singles. She defeated Melanie Klaffner of Austria 6-2, 6-2.
Klaffner is ranked 244.
Other players advancing to the second round on Wednesday were Kimberly Couts, Mirjana Lucic, Petra Rampre, Ani Mijacika, Julia Glushko, Anastasia Pivovarova, Meng Yuan, third seed Lauren Albanese, and Jamie Hampton.
They join No. 2 seed Sharon Fichman, fourth seed Anna Tatishvili, Jacqueline Cako, Julia Cohen, eighth seed Sacha Jones, and Grace Min. These players advanced to the second round on Tuesday.
Second round action begins today. Fichman and Tatishvili play separate matches at 9:30 a.m. Lepchenko and Albanese play separate matches after the first matches.
Doubles action will follow the singles matches.
The Rock Hill Rocks Open is a $25,000 women's USTA Pro Circuit tennis tournament sponsored by the city of Rock Hill. All matches are at the Rock Hill Tennis Center, and fans can watch for free.
