Top seeds move on to Rock Hill Rocks Open quarterfinals

Eight players, including top seed Varvara Lepchenko and second seed Sharon Fichman, advanced Thursday to the quarterfinals of the Rock Hill Rocks Open.

Lepchenko, of Allentown, Pa., is ranked 106th in women's singles. She beat Kimberly Couts of Bradenton, Fla., 7-5, 6-4, in round two to make the quarterfinals.

Fichman, of Toronto, is ranked 130th. She beat Grace Min of Lawrenceville, Ga., 6-1, 4-6, 6-4.

Quarterfinal matches are scheduled for today at the Rock Hill Tennis Center. Fans can watch for free.

At 10 a.m., Fichman will play eighth seed Sacha Jones of New Zealand, while third seed Lauren Albanese of Parkland, Fla., will play Anastasia Pivovarova of Russia. After those matches, Lepchenko will play Mirjana Lucic of Croatia, and Ani Mijacika of Croatia will play Jacqueline Cako of Brier, Wash.

The Rock Hill Rocks Open is a $25,000 women's USTA Pro Circuit tennis tournament sponsored by the city of Rock Hill.
