closeCHESTER -- Chad Thompson pitched into the ninth inning, and Chester Post 27 got hits when it needed them to down Inman Post 45, 4-3 on Wednesday.
The win gives Post 27 a 2-1 lead in the best-of-five series with today's Game 4 set for 7 p.m. in Inman.
"Chad pitched a very good game for us tonight," Post 27 coach Dennis Jensen said. "He was around the plate for the most part, and I thought that he had a good command of his pitches."
We did not get many hits, but they were clutch hits," he added. "Hopefully, we can play well again on Thursday night. We just need to hit the ball better than we have the last two nights."
Thompson, a left-hander, allowed only six hits on the night. Three of them came in the ninth inning. He struck out six and walked seven. One of the runs he allowed was unearned.
Chester took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first without the aid of a hit. A walk to Ben Roberts, a stolen base, a sacrifice, and Daniel Rawls' sacrifice fly to center field produced the run.
Inman tied the count with a run in the top of the second. A pair of Post 27 errors led to the unearned run, which was scored by Taylor Blanton.
Post 45 went ahead 2-1 in the third. Chris Collins walked and scored on a double by Trey Mabry. Andrew Brooks and Blanton walked to load the bases, but Thompson got Zeke Rollins to fly out to center field to end the threat.
Chester tied the scored with a run in the third. Matt Stroud and Darby Rollins walked, and Kody Clack singled with one out. Rawls delivered the run with a sacrifice fly to center field to score Stroud.
Post 27 took the lead for good with a run in the fourth. Brendon Van Nostrand led off the frame with a single. John Jordan followed with a single, and Trevor Hudson singled to load the bases with no one out.
Stroud grounded into a double play that started at shortstop, but Van Nostrand scored to give Chester the lead.
