FORT MILL -- Jim Finnerty has resigned his position as girls' varsity soccer coach at Fort Mill High School.

Finnerty stepped down to pursue a career opportunity with the South Charlotte Soccer Club.

Finnerty has been Fort Mill's coach since 2005 and leaves with a 78-13-8 career record. The Lady Yellow Jackets have won four straight Region 3-AAAA titles during Finnerty's tenure. In those four seasons, the Lady Yellow Jackets were 43-0 in region games. Finnerty's teams advanced to the Upper State semifinals in 2006, 2007 and 2008.

Fort Mill played for the Class AAAA state title in 2005.

During Finnerty's time as coach, the Lady Jackets' program has sent four players to Division I soccer -- Ashleigh Sheets (U.S. Military Academy), Jen Ficklen and Danielle Schmidt (Clemson) and Melanie Blaschke (Charleston Southern).

Fort Mill athletics director Bailey Jackson said the search for Finnerty's replacement will begin immediately.
