CHARLOTTE -- Charlotte Christian fires a cannon and its cheerleaders do push-ups after a touchdown. Both got a workout in the Knights' 56-0 win over Westminster Catawba on Friday.
The Knights scored three times in the first seven minutes. In the first quarter alone, the Knights blocked a punt that led to a touchdown and D.J. Faris returned an interception 39 yards for another score. Luke Bard connected on two touchdown passes to Willis Hall to make it 28-0 Charlotte Christian after one quarter.
Kelly Brown returned another Hayden Black interception 51 yards to make it 35-0. A 28-yard Peter Blazevich run and a Ty Linton 55-yard punt return made it 49-0 at halftime.
A 17-yard Michael Selan run in the fourth quarter made the final score 56-0 Charlotte Christian. The Knights' defense intercepted four passes and held the Indians to 83 total yards.
Westminster Catawba coach Ben McGarrity called the first half "the toughest situation I've faced as a player or coach."
He also said that he felt his players "responded well in the second half."
