Visit church to learn of God's many blessings
Never having read the book entitled "The Golden Compass" by Phillip Pulman or seen the movie, my thoughts and comments are based on letters that have appeared in The Herald. One such letter, written by Mike Toohey, thinks God is evil and should be killed. Nothing is further from the truth. Satan is the evil one -- not God. My God is a kind, loving God. He loves everyone, including you, Mr. Toohey. I agree completely with letters written by William Yester and another by Pennie Prichard.
Just what is your problem, Mr. Toohey? Am I correct in believing you are an atheist? If you are, you don't believe in God, so how can you believe he is evil and should be killed? I am 86 years old, and God has blessed me every day of my life. Most people don't think of the air we breathe, the water we drink, the trees and flowers that we love and admire as being blessings, but they are. The list of blessings is endless.
I am a member of the First Wesleyan Church of York. It is located just outside of York on S.C. 5, across and beyond the Moss Justice Center. Our pastor is the Rev. Todd Reynolds, a wonderful minister and a friend to everyone. I sincerely invite you and your family to come to our church to really learn what a wonderful God we have in this world that he created. Everyone is welcome regardless of race, color or belief. Come join us. You have nothing to lose, (except Satan), and everything to gain.
Fan appreciates coverage of Clover football, band
On behalf of the entire Clover Blue Eagle family I would like to say a gracious thank you to The Herald and Herald-Enquirer for your outstanding coverage of the Clover Blue Eagles state championships in marching band and football this fall.
Adam O'Daniel, Daniel Plassman, Barry Byers, Karl Lyles, Andy Burriss, Adam MacInnis, Gene Graham, David Cloninger, Andrew Dys and anyone I may have neglected, you have given us a treasure chest of memories to carry with us a lifetime.
What a testament to the outstanding organization you have. Your commitment to local high school sports and news is very much appreciated. This holiday season, please know that there are a lot of appreciative Blue Eagles thanking you for a job well done.
Don't interfere with right to exercise freedom
America a free nation? Who are we kidding? Our country was founded on the love, trust and belief that through God, we could develop a freer nation -- a nation built on the blood, sweat and tears of our ancestors.
What happened to freedom of religion? What happened to freedom of speech? I'll tell you. We let a select few dictate to us what, where and how we can express our beliefs. The beliefs this nation was founded on!
We need to stand together, tall and proud, and take our country back. Why should we be chastised for saying "Merry Christmas" to someone? Is this (Christ) not why we celebrate this "holiday"? Christ is why we're here. Does it matter if someone says "Merry Christmas," "Happy Hanukkah," "Happy holidays" or whatever their belief is? I say no.
What do you think? Will you join me in saying "Merry Christmas" and "Happy birthday, Christ?" Or are you ashamed?
Are we going to let our brave men and women in the service fight and die for our freedom and not exercise it? Are we going to stand by and let all signs of God be removed from our courthouses, our public offices or our money? I hope not.
Wake up America, before it's too late. Believe the way you will, but don't tell me how to believe. Let us all pray for and give thanks for all of our soldiers.
