Area teams are in playoffs

High school football fans have ample number of teams to root for in postseason play.

High school football playoff action continues this week, and area fans have plenty of teams to root for.

Northwestern plays against South Florence at District Three Stadium on Thursday. Then, on Friday, Rock Hill will host Spartanburg.

Northwestern, if it advances, is assured of playing its first two games at home and could play a third if the Trojans are the highest remaining seed in the third round. Rock Hill also would play its first two games at home and could play a third if it is the highest remaining seed.

Clover will travel to Dorman on Friday for the first round of the Division 1 Class AAAA playoffs. And in Division II, South Pointe will host Richland NE, and Lancaster will travel to Goose Creek.

Daniel will host Chester on Friday in the second round of the Class AAA Upper State playoffs.

With the strength of local teams, it's a good bet that some will meet each other on the field in later rounds. That makes for divided loyalties but it's a dilemma local fans would welcome.

There is a chance of rain Thursday, before clearing skies Friday. We can be sure that many area residents will be warming seats in the stands on both nights.

Good luck to all our area teams.
