closeThe one thing David Rawlinson knows for sure is that, when he assumes his post as a member of the White House Fellows program, George W. Bush won't be the occupant.
Rawlinson, a Rock Hill native, graduate of Northwestern High School and Harvard Business School and son of former Sunset Park Elementary School principal David Rawlinson, will move to Washington in January, the same month a new president will move into the White House. Rawlinson and 13 other young adults chosen from a field of more than 1,000 applicants will take part in the Fellows program.
As a 35-year-old black Republican, Rawlinson is a supporter of Sen. John McCain in the presidential race. But whatever the outcome, he is likely to have an interesting time serving either in the White House or in one of the departments, such as Defense or State.
The community can take pride that one of its own will assume this vaunted role. We hope Rawlinson will be open to sharing what the experience is like, living in such close proximity to power.
We're also pleased to learn that he would consider a move back to Rock Hill. We could use young leaders like him here.
Congratulations to him on this distinct honor. It ought to be an experience he will savor for the rest of his life.
