Thanks to Kiwanis for special program

It was a good day. We were invited to attend a program at Belleview Elementary School because our grandson was in it. Neither the students nor the parents (grandparents) knew what the program was about. It was to be a surprise.

At 8 a.m., we received a warm welcome from Principal John Kirell and his staff and were directed to the cafeteria. Soon, the students arrived, and Mr. Kirell announced that each of our children was to receive the Terrific Kid Award sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Rock Hill. Each classroom teacher had chosen a student for this honor.

One by one, each student, with his family members, walked to the stage to receive his award. Certificates of recognition and goody bags were presented by David Cowen and Bill Daniel of the Kiwanis Club. Pictures were taken to record the moment. Mr. Kirell invited everyone to stay for biscuits and juice.

Inside the goody bags were gifts from the community: BB&T, Comporium, Chick-fil-A, Burger King, PW's Ice Cream, Museum of York County and the York County Library.

Thank you, Kiwanis Club and Belleview Elementary, for making this a very special day!

Obama is slick and dangerous

Barack Obama started many of his presidential campaign speeches with something like the following: “We live in the greatest, most free, most powerful, richest nation the world has ever known. Please, please, help me change it!”

In the short time he and his multitude of Marxist cronies and czars have controlled the White House, he has kept his promise. They have changed our country from a partial capitalistic, free market society into a mostly socialistic society.

The only worthwhile attribute Obama has is his ability to seduce the young and naive, the lemmings and the vast majority of college leaders who lost their souls along with their minds when their educational leaders failed them a generation ago. Today, Obama still is repeating his campaign speeches. He is reduced to being an automated teleprompter. He is a very good campaigner but a terrible president.

There is no way he will attempt to answer legitimate, hard questions. One good open session with serious challenges would show him up for what he is: Slick and dangerous, and he should go back to Oz.

What is real cost of health care reform?

Does anyone know how much my monthly premium will be after the health care reform is passed? Is it $50 a month? Or $200 a month? Or $1,000 a month? I have asked several people, and every time I ask this question, I get a blank stare.

So, would any one of us sign up for a loan if we didn't know how much our monthly payment would be? Yet, we want to sign up for a program that potentially will cost trillions of dollars.

People want a free lunch

If people want to quote the Bible, it also says, “Thou shall earn thy bread by the sweat of thy brow,” not being a freeloader and sitting on your butt doing nothing. When health care is free, freeloaders will have health care.
