COLUMBIA, S.C. -- Teams of South Carolina health providers, community workers and therapists are coming together to offer medical screenings and services to the homeless in Columbia.
As part of an event calling attention to the problems of the homeless on Saturday, representatives of the Dorn Veterans Administration Medical Center are offering medical screenings, seasonal flu shots and counseling on job training, housing and legal services.
The event takes place along Main Street in Columbia, between Calhoun and Elmwood Streets.
VA officials say there are more than 1,000 homeless veterans in the Columbia area.
Service providers, community leaders, church representatives and the community at large are invited to aid the homeless and help put an end to the problem.
