LEXINGTON, Ky. -- The Winthrop women's tennis team lost for the first time this season to even its record at 1-1 after falling to No. 22 ranked Kentucky, 7-0, on Sunday at the Boone Tennis Complex.
The Wildcats women's tennis team stayed unbeaten at 5-0 as it swept Winthrop and Miami (Ohio) in the doubleheader.
Kentucky won doubles, never giving up more than three games, then swept the singles competition for the 7-0 win.
Kentucky junior Christine Johnston defeated Winthrop's Sara Abutovic 6-3, 6-4 at No. 3 singles. Megan Broderick defeated Winthrop's Elizaveta Zaytseva in a tough battle 6-4, 6-4 at No. 1.

Winthrop freshman Sandra Herrera came closer that anyone to claiming a victory as she won the first set over Kentucky's Jennifer Stone, 6-1, at No. 4. Stone battled back to win the second set in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (2) before putting the win away with a 6-0 victory in the third set to give UK the team victory.
Winthrop's women will return to action at 1 p.m. Feb. 7 when they face Stetson University in Charleston.
