Brandon Sweezer and Claire Holliday won three events each leading the Rock Hill YMCA swim team (RAYS) to a fifth place finish in the South Carolina Short Course State Championships held this past weekend at the Middle Tyger YMCA in Duncan.
Sweezer, a seventh-grader who swims for the Nation Ford High School team, won titles in 1000, 500 and mile freestyles in the boys 11-12 division, while Holliday, swimming in the 9-10 girls division, captured the 100 individual medley and the 100 and 500 backstroke titles.
Holliday finished second in the 50 and 100 freestyle, 100 backstroke and 200 individual medley.
Zac Baker and David Trotter, in 9-10 boys, tied for first in the 50 backstroke.

Other second-place finishes for the RAYS were: Izzi Woodard, 13-14 girls, 100 and 200 breast; and Baker, 500 free.
Placing third were: Baker, 50 breast; Trotter, 100 back; Anna Pettus, 9-10 girls, 50 breast; and A.C. Lim, 13-14 boys, 200 breast, 200 individual medley.
Riley League, Jackson Bagwell, Brandon Keller and Sweezer, in the 11-12 boys 200 medley relay, placed second. Brandon and Richard Keller, Sweezer and Bagwell were third in the 200 free relay.
Taylor Barnes, Meg Wiggins, LeAnna Martin and Madison Little placed third in the 11-12 girls 200 free relay.
With 30 teams competing, Y Spartaquatics of Spartanburg took the team title with 2,402 points, easily out-distancing runner-up Team Greenville (938). The RAYS finished with 627.16 points.
