NINETY SIX -- Coastal Carolina shot a 36-hole 586 (296-290) to take a 10-shot lead after the first two rounds of the Big South Conference Men's Golf Championship on Monday. Coastal freshman David Dannelly carded a 1-under 143 (70-73) and owns a four-shot lead entering today's final round.
Dannelly opened Monday's first round with a tournament-low 2-under 70, helping Coastal to a 296 through 18 holes, which tied Radford for the team lead. Radford's Sean Goshert and Charleston Southern's Herve Gevers each shot an even-par 72 in the first round, with Gevers making seven birdies during his round.
Other individual highlights from the first round included Winthrop's Pete Alminas making eagle on the 554-yard, par-5 No. 18 hole to close out the round with a 1-over 73. Liberty (301), Charleston Southern (304) and Winthrop (305) followed Coastal and Radford on the leaderboard after the first round.
Winthrop's Kelly Manders bounced back from his first-round 81 with a 1-under par 71, the second-lowest individual round of the day. He notched two eagles during his second round -- the 527-yard, par-5 No. 8 hole and the 558-yard, par-5 No. 13.
