Rain, rain go away.
Winthrop coach men's soccer coach Rich Posipanko and Liberty coach Jeff Alder agreed Friday morning to postpone their Big South match a day in hopes of bluer skies and drier field conditions. The teams will play at 3:30 p.m. at Eagle Field.
The schedule change creates a doubleheader of soccer action at Eagle Field. The men's match will be followed by the women's game at 7 p.m. against UNC Asheville.
"Liberty had to make a decision early to make the bus trip down here. I don't know if this is the right call or not, but I know they didn't want to drive down here, not play and have to spend the night," Posipanko said.
Posipanko wasn't worried as much about the field conditions as the weather the teams would be forced to confront. The wind would be a tough opponent for both squads.
This is a big early season game for both schools. Winthrop was the preseason favorite to win the BSC. Liberty was a close second.
Liberty (4-2 overall and 0-1 in BSC) ended the Eagles' season with a 1-0 overtime win last year in the second round of the conference tournament. The Flames went on to win it all and get to the NCAA tournament, where the lost Loyola (Md.) 2-0.
