Sophomore Matt Crohan held the Chanticleers to just one hit in eight innings in the Winthrop baseball team’s 3-0 win over Coastal Carolina on Sunday afternoon. The Eagles improve to 18-10 this season and 2-4 in the Big South.
Winthrop lacrosse finished its non-conference portion of the 2015 schedule with eight wins in 10 games after a 17-5 win over Cincinnati on Friday. Abigail Blevins scored four goals to lead John Sung’s team to the win. The Eagles open Big South play April 4 at Presbyterian.
Winthrop senior lacrosse standout Jenna Kasmarik is pictured on a billboard purchased by the school on the side of I-77. The signs says “Winthrop Stands For Opportunity,” a perfect statement for Kasmarik’s second life in the Eagles’ lacrosse program. She leads the nation in goals per game and is a big reason why the third-year program has its best-ever shot at reaching the NCAA tournament.
Winthrop men’s soccer will host the ninth annual Manchester Cup Saturday, March 28 at Manchester Meadows in Rock Hill, S.C. The one-day tournament includes some of the best college soccer in the southeast, as well as a number of local high school teams.
Winthrop scored five runs in the first inning and senior Brad Kaczka hit a school record three triples to help the Eagles to an 11-4 college baseball win over The Citadel on Tuesday night in Charleston.
