Kevin Cook’s Parkinson’s disease has been attacking his body ever since the Winthrop women’s basketball coach began to show symptoms in the mid-2000s. But he’s undergoing deep brain stimulation surgery right now in an effort to stop the tremors that result from the disease, and which rob him of his privacy to tell people he has PD and make certain public situations embarrassing and difficult. It took Cook a year and a half to make the decision, but he can’t wait until April 28 when he’s “turned on.”
