The Winthrop softball team will host a weekend series with Radford, beginning Friday at 7 p.m. at Terry Field and feature the first game of the doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m. on ESPN3.

Winthrop (16-16, 4-5 Big South) enters the game having lost three straight after a six-game stretch away from home.

The Eagles are 16-16 overall and 4-5 in the Big South while Radford is 7-16 on the year and 1-2 in the league as it opened up conference play last weekend at Campbell.

For a five-to-six year span, this matchup was one of the best in the Big South Conference to watch, but since 2009 the series has been dominated by the Highlanders. It was 2008 the last time the Eagles took a series from Radford (2-1 in Radford, Va.).

The Eagles are just 4-16 against Radford since that series and have lost 13 of the last 14 meetings. The Eagles’ only win during that stretch coming at the 2013 Big South Conference Tournament. Radford now leads the all-time series 39-29.

Eagles to host camps: Coach Kevin Cook announced the Eagles will host three summer camps at The Winthrop Coliseum.

Each camp has been designed to help participants improve their skills while learning from an experienced staff of collegiate coaches. The three camps being offered include the Future Eagles Camp (June 23-26), the Eagles’ Elite Camp (June 20-21), and the Eagles’ Team Shootout (June 23-25).

The Future Eagles Camp will be offered for grades 3rd-8th at a cost of $200 per camper. Children of Winthrop Faculty/Staff can register for a discounted fee of $175. Siblings will also receive a discounted fee of $175 per child. An Early Bird Special of $150, if paid in full, is being offered until April 18.

The Eagles’ Elite Camp will be offered to High School Varsity level players. The cost will be $95 for commuters or $135 (includes lodging and three meals) for campers who stay overnight in on-campus housing.

The Eagles’ Team Shootout will be offered for any AAU, varsity, and junior-varsity teams at a cost of $350 per team.

Schedule altered: Due to the weather forecast for Friday, the baseball game between Winthrop and UNC Asheville at The Winthrop Ballpark has been postponed and will be rescheduled as either a single game or part of a doubleheader on Saturday.

If only one game can be played on Saturday, then a doubleheader is planned for Sunday. If neither game can be played on Saturday, then a doubleheader will be scheduled for Sunday and a single game will be played on Monday.
