Indians fall to 1st Assembly

CONCORD, N.C. -- Football is supposedly a simple game -- block and tackle, run the ball, stop the run.

Failing to stop the run and failing to put together a ground game of its own led to Westminster Catawba's 20-6 loss to First Assembly on Friday night.

The Indians managed only 29 yards on 17 carries rushing while giving up 359 yards on 57 carries to the Eagles.

The Eagles' running game was particularly dominant in the first half. Bo Kinard scored on an 11-yard run to make it 7-0 in the first quarter. Buck Lawrence, who had 133 yards on 22 carries, and Brandon Stegall both scored from 2 yards out to make it 20-0 Eagles at the half.

Westminster Catawba coach Mike Spurlock said he felt his team played a decent game. He also said he felt the defense stepped up in the second half and made good adjustments.
