High school roundup: Advantageous Stallions cruise

The South Pointe Stallions got nine hits and took advantage of three Lewisville errors to beat the Lions 14-4 in nonregion baseball action at South Pointe.

The South Pointe Stallions got nine hits and took advantage of three Lewisville errors to beat the Lions 14-4 in nonregion baseball action at South Pointe.

The Stallions put the game away in the third inning by scoring eight runs to take a 13-0 lead.

Josh Massey led the Stallions’ attack with a pair of hits. Houston Strauss’ three-run home run was the big hit for South Pointe.

Austin Harrigan picked up the win. He scattered three hits over the first four innings.

Girls’ Soccer

Sun Valley 4, Indian Land 1: Sun Valley took a 3-0 lead at halftime and went on the defeat the third-ranked Indian Land Warriors in a nonregion match.

Shalyn Dougherty got the only goal for Indian Land. Kate Komorous assisted on the goal.

Isabella Maia was in the goal for the Warriors and recorded 15 saves.

Sun Valley, of Indian Trail, N.C, improved to 5-1 with the win, while Indian Land dropped to 3-2 with the loss.

South Pointe 4, Lancaster 2: The South Pointe Stallions defeated the Lancaster Bruins in a Region 3-AAAA matchup at Lancaster.

Shelly Restificar led the Stallions with three goals and one assist. Victoria Friel scored the other goal for South Pointe. Natalie Roberts was credited with an assist on one of Restificar’s goals.

Peyton Patterson scored both of Lancaster’s goals. One was unassisted, while Francis Whitesides was credited with the assist on the other.

South Pointe improves to 5-1-1 overall and 1-1 in the region, while Lancaster falls to 1-1 in region play.

Softball

Union County 3, Nation Ford 2: Union County scored the winning run in the bottom of the fifth and defeated the Nation Ford Falcons in a nonregion contest.

Ashton Irvin took the loss for Nation Ford. K.K. Kerrington led the Falcons at the plate with a home run.
