Rock Hill Bearcats start fast in 9-6 baseball win over Nation Ford

Rock Hill touched up Nation Ford starter Dalton Helms for seven runs in the first three innings and held on from there to defeat the Falcons 9-6 Friday night at Nation Ford.
The Bearcats strung together four straight one-out hits in the top of the first followed by two bases loaded walks to lead 3-0. Brandon Banks had an RBI single to right-center in the inning.
In the top of the third got one-out hits from Cody Edkins and Isaac Rodgers and then two wild pitches resulted in another run scored. After a dropped fly ball in left field extended the inning, Zach Carter ripped a two-out bases loaded triple to right that scored three and put Rock Hill up 7-0.
Nation Ford answered when starter Will Reid hit two batters in the third and then walked in a run. Jacob Wright’s base hit scored two and cut the lead to 7-3. The Falcons got four straight hits in the fifth, including RBI base hits from Wright and Nick Hoffman to make it 7-5. Wright was 3-for-4 with three RBI. After the Bearcats added a run in the sixth,
Clay Hunt smashed a home run to left in the bottom half to cut the lead to 8-6. Rodgers reached and was driven in by Conner Edkins in the seventh for the final margin. Reid struck out six in 4 2/3 innings and got the win while Helms gave up seven runs, four earned, on seven hits in three innings while striking out three and walking four to get the loss.
Josh Jones struck out five in four innings for Nation Ford. Carter pitched 2.1 for Rock Hill and got the save. He gave up one run on two hits and struck out two. He was 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored for the Bearcats. Rodgers was 2-for-3 with a walk and an RBI.
