Early runs help Trojans clinch win

The Northwestern Trojans scored three runs in the first inning and went on to claim a 6-4 win over the Fort Mill Yellow Jackets in Region 3-AAAA action at Northwestern.
Will Chitwood pitched six innings and picked up the win to improve to 2-0. Stuart Hodge pitched the seventh to get the save.
Will Carter’s two-run double was the big hit in the first inning for Northwestern. Josh Crump’s two-run double in the fifth gave Northwestern a 6-4 lead, after Fort Mill had battled back to tie the game with two runs in both the third and fourth frames.
The win improved Northwestern to 7-0 overall and 6-0 in the region. Fort Mill fell to 4-2 overall and 4-1 in the region with the loss.
Lewisville 14, North Central 3: The Lewisville Lions improved to 2-0 in region play with a 14-3 win over North Central in Region 3-A action at North Central.
Obbie Sarduy picked up the win for Lewisville. Holden Reynolds and Austin Bradshaw each had a pair of hits to lead the Lions, who improved to 7-1 with the win.
Clover 12, Lancaster 0: Jimmy Marcellis pitched a complete game two-hit shut out to lead the Clover Blue Eagles to a 12-0 win over the Lancaster Bruins in a Region 3-AAAA encounter.
Northwestern 5, Fort Mill 4: Meredith Cudd’s solo home run in the top of the seventh gave the Northwestern Trojans a 5-4 win over the Fort Mill Yellow Jackets in a Region 3-AAAA contest at Fort Mill.
Kori Wancheck picked up her sixth win of the year with a complete game. She struck out 12 Fort Mill batters.

Northwestern, Nation Ford, Lewisville ranked in baseball: The South Carolina Baseball Coaches Association released its latest state rankings on Monday and Northwestern and Nation Ford are top-10 Class AAAA teams. The Trojans check in at No. 7, while Nation Ford is No. 9. Sumter is the state’s top Class AAAA team.
Lewisville held strong in the Class A poll, checking in at No. 3.

Northwestern, Fort Mill meet in boys’ soccer Tuesday night: Northwestern hosts Fort Mill on its campus Tuesday night in a crunch Region 3-AAAA boys’ soccer match. Both teams were ranked in Sunday’s latest state polls from EurosportScoreboard.com. Northwestern, 8-0-1, slotted in at third in Class AAAA, while the Yellow Jackets, 8-1-0, are ranked seventh.
Several other local sides were ranked in those polls. The Fort Mill girls (8-1-1) are third in Class AAAA, and the only other area team ranked in either Class AAAA poll. Wando and J.L. Mann are Nos. 1 and 2 in both the boys and girls’ rankings.
Both Indian Land squads are ranked, Adam Cole’s boys (6-2) sitting in second in Class AA behind Academic Magnet and Mark Bonda’s girls (5-2) ranked third by Academic Magnet and Bishop England.
