High school roundup: Trojans’ Wancheck fans 12 in softball win

The Northwestern Trojans softball team scored three runs in the fifth inning and defeated the Blythewood Bengals 5-4 in nonregion action Wednesday at Northwestern.

Kori Wancheck improved to 7-0, pitching a complete game and striking out 12.

Rachel Marion and Cassie Wancheck both had a pair of hits to lead Northwestern.

Clover 16, Rock Hill 0: The Blue Eagles collected 14 hits and blanked the Bearcats in a Region 3-AAAA contest at Clover.

Marisa Harkey had three hits and drove in five runs to lead Clover. Blake Wallert also had a pair of hits and knocked in three runs. Brooke Rhinehardt added two hits and 2 RBIs.

Elizabeth Edmunds picked up the win for the Blue Eagles.

Lewisville 9, South Pointe 7: The Lions scored five runs in the third inning and held off a South Pointe rally in the seventh to defeat the Stallions 9-7 in a nonregion game at Richburg.

Evan Sisk picked up his fifth win of the year. Christian Cok pitched the final three inings and recorded the save for the Lions.

South Pointe 1, Rock Hill 0: Shelly Restifier scored the only goal of the game as the Stallions edged the Bearcats in Region 3-AAAA play.

Shelby Champion recorded the shutout for South Pointe. She recorded 10 saves.

The win improved South Pointe to 7-2-1 overall and 3-2 in the region.

Lancaster 2, Clover 1: The Bruins recorded their first win over the Eagles with a victory in Region 3-AAAA action at Lancaster.

Peyton Patterson and Frances Whitesides got the goals for Lancaster, while Claire Allen scored for Clover.

Effie Sears had 14 saves for Lancaster in the match.

Lancaster improved to 7-3 overall and 3-2 in the region with the win.

Girls’ Soccer

Indian Land 4, Andrew Jackson 0: Shalyn Dougherty and Katherine Kilroy scored two goals each and led the third-ranked Warriors to a victory over the Volunteers in a Region 3-AA match.

Kate Komorous and Alexys Loveless each recorded an assist for the Warriors, who improved to 6-2 on the year.

Indian Land dominated the match, outshooting Andrew Jackson 17-3. Isabella Maia worked in the goal for Indian Land, getting three saves and recording the shutout.

Boys’ Soccer

Indian Land 3, Andrew Jackson 1: Jordan Szustwal scored twice and led the Warriors to a win over the Volunteers in Region 3-AA play at Andrew Jackson.

Garrett Gerdes scored the third goal for the Warriors. Gerdes and Roscoe Lovejoy recorded assist for Indian Land.

Jake Barton was in the net for the Warriors and recorded six saves.

The win improved the Warriors to 7-2 overall and 6-2 in the region.


Pageland Central 5, Indian Land 4: The Eagles overcame a three-run deficit to defeat the Warriors in Region 3-AA play at Pageland.

Mike Webb led the Warriors with a double and a home run and a pair of runs batted in. Indian Land outhit the Eagles 7-4.

The loss dropped Indian Land to 4-2 overall and 1-2 in region play.

Hickory Grove 6, Westminster Catawba 0: Hickory Grove defeated the Westminster Catawba Indians 6-0 in Metro Athletic Conference action.

Justin Scott, Sam Holtel, Triston Thomas and Seth Roddey each had a hit for the Indians.
