High school roundup: Taylor helps Trojans to playoff baseball win over Riverside

Eric Taylor pitched a complete game and led the Northwestern Trojans to a 1-0 baseball win over the Riverside Warriors in the opening round of the Class AAAA playoffs.

The Trojans got the only run they needed in the bottom of the first. Dupree Hart tripled and scored on a sacrifice fly by Drew Patrick.

“Eric threw great for us tonight,” said Northwestern coach Mitch Walters. “That is what wins in the playoffs.”

The Trojans will host J. L. Mann game on Saturday at 6 p.m.

Fox Creek 10, Great Falls 0: Fox Creek scored five runs in the third inning to break the game open and defeat the Great Falls Red Devils in the first round of the Class A playoffs.

Softball

Clover 7, Boiling Springs 0: The Clover Blue Eagles pounded out 12 hits and defeated Boiling Springs in the opening round of the Class AAAA playoffs.

Brittany Rhinehardt led the Clover attack with three hits, while Blake Wallert, Elizabeth Edmunds, and Shania Domingue each had a pair of hits for Clover.

Edmunds picked up the complete game win. She scattered three hits and struck out eight.

Northwestern 4, Gaffney 2 (10): Rachel Marion’s walk-off two-run home run in the bottom of the 10th inning lifted the Trojans to a win over the Indians in the opening round of the Class AAA playoffs.

Northwestern will host Lugoff-Elgin on Saturday.

Fox Creek 10, Great Falls 0: Fox Creek scored four runs in the fourth inning to break open a close game and toppled the Red Devils in the opening round of the Class A playoffs.
