Six locals named All-State in baseball

Six locals were named All-State on Wednesday by the South Carolina Baseball Coaches Association.

Nation Ford’s Clay Hunt, Northwestern’s Josh Crump and Dupree Hart, and Rock Hill’s Chase Watts made the cut in Class AAAA. Lewisville’s Obbie Sarduy and Evan Sisk earned All-State in Class A.

Sumter coach Brooks Shumake was named coach of the year for all classifications.

Long makes Class AA boys’ golf All-State: Indian Land’s Jared Long shot a two-round total of 157 to tie for 10th at the Class AA boys’ golf state tournament earlier this week at Indian River Golf Club, in West Columbia.

Long finished eight strokes behind individual champion, Bishop England’s Jamie Wilson, who carded a 149.

Payseur finishes fourth at Class A state tourney: Great Falls’ Josh Payseur carded a two-day total of 149 strokes to finish fourth out of 75 competitors in the Class A boys’ golf individual state tournament, held May 6-7 at Greenwood Country Club. Payseur finished nine strokes off the lead after shooting 76 in the first round and a 1-over 73 on Tuesday.

Christ Church’s Stephen Reynolds won the tournament after firing a 65 on Tuesday to hold off teammate, and brother, Harry Reynolds by five shots.
