High school notebook: Wancheck named Region 3-AAAA softball’s top player

All-Region 3-AAAA softball, North-South baseball, North-South tennis all announced. Also, Indian Land High School selling athletic season passes and booster memberships.

Northwestern swept the year-end softball awards for Region 3-AAAA after winning the region with an undefeated record. Pitcher Kori Wancheck was named the player of the year, and coach Bryan Smith took coach of the year honors.

tennis announced

Five local baseball players made the North 1A-4A squad for the upcoming North-South all-star game in Myrtle Beach.

Rock Hill’s Chase Watts, Lewisville’s Obbie Sarduy, Fort Mill’s Jaden Savage and Northwestern’s Garrett Rast and Josh Crump will play in the games held June 12 to 14 at the Ripken Experience.

Outgoing York coach Scot Kiggans will be on the North squad’s coaching staff.

Two Fort Mill boys’ tennis players made the North-South cut, interestingly with one representing each of the two regions. Matthew Brautigam will represent the North, while Jay Karwatsky will play for the South squad. The matches will played May 30 and 31 at the Kroc Center in Greenville.

Indian Land selling booster club memberships and athletic season passes: The Indian Land Athletic Booster Club is now selling memberships and season passes for the 2014-2015 school year. Anyone 18 and older who is not a high school student is eligible to join. Memberships range from $25-$150 per year. If a person is not able to join due to financial reasons, they may apply for a free membership at one of the booster club meetings. Money from memberships are distributed to teams from Indian Land’s high school and middle schools as the donor chooses, with $5 of each membership being kept by the booster club to pay for awards for all teams at both schools.

Season passes are good for home games of all sports with the exception of playoff games. Money from season passes are used by the school to provide field maintenance for all athletic fields. Student season passes are $50 each and adult season passes are $75 each. Adult season passes may be purchased at a discount of $25 per pass with the purchase of a Chief Membership or Golden Spear Membership.
