Fort Mill falls hard to Inman

After making it to the second round of the American Legion playoffs for the first time in a decade, the magic for Fort Mill Post 43 finally ran out as they lost in game four to Inman Post 45, who won the series 3-1.

After making it to the second round of the American Legion playoffs for the first time in a decade, the magic for Fort Mill Post 43 finally ran out as they lost in game four to Inman Post 45, who won the series 3-1.

With its back against the wall, Fort Mill Post 43 needed some help to force a game five against Inman Post 45 and keep its season alive, but the magic quickly dissipated.

Post 43 started shaky to open the game when they loaded the bases with two outs but managed to get free of the jam.

Inman struck first in the top of the second as designated hitter Jacob Scruggs led things off with a double and then got on the board with help from leadoff hitter Dallas Betsill.

Fort Mill struggled at the plate as Inman starter Jonah Corn retired the minimum through the first two innings.

In the top of the third, the momentum stayed with Post 45 as Hunter Lipscumb singled to start things and Caleb Bruce singled him in. Inman then loaded the bases with no outs after a bunt single by Gavin Bishop.

Left fielder Nic Stewart then drove in his brother Chris Stewart on an infield hit and Scruggs drove in Bruce on a sac fly. Betsill sent Bishop home to make it 5-0 Inman.

Fort Mill got off the snide in the third as starter Josh Corley helped with a double to start things. Grant Fry then singled. Post 43 then got the bases loaded, but a 1-2-3 double play saved Inman.

Inman unloaded for three runs in the fourth inning with the help of a three-run home run from Bruce.

Fort Mill finally got on the board in the bottom of the fourth as catcher Justin Tepper led the inning off with a solo home run to left. That was followed by back-to-back singles from Josh Jones and Alex Endler.

Corley was removed in the fifth inning after allowing an RBI double to Betsill, his second of the game. Corley went four and a third innings, allowing a dozen hits and nine runs.

Running low on arms, centerfielder Jaden Savage came in to relieve Corley on the mound.

Savage got out of the inning, but in the sixth allowed three runs and lasted just an inning before being removed for Tepper.

The pitching struggles continued for Post 43 as Inman added 11 runs in the sixth inning to close the game out for Post 45.
