Ryan Gilbert pitched 10 innings and picked up a pair of wins as York stayed alive in the South Carolina Junior Legion state tournament.
Gilbert pitched three scoreless innings of three-hit ball with two strikeouts in the 3-2 win over Moncks Corner. He came back later in the day and tossed a two-hitter in the 3-0 victory over Florence Post 1.
York advances to play Socastee at 1 p.m. on Wednesday. If they win, York will play Post 1 for the title 30 minutes after that game.
In the opener, Shandon Cobb scored on a throwing error for the winning run against Moncks Corner.
Trent Alexander was 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Joe Gill was 1-for-3 with an RBI to lead York. Alexander’s RBI single in the bottom of the third gave York a 2-1 lead.
Moncks Corner tied it at 2 on catcher DJ Barbarina’s sacrifice fly in the fourth.
In the bottom of the fifth, Cobb singled and then stole second. He advanced to third on a passed ball but Barbarina tried to throw him out. Barbarina’s throw hit York’s third base coach and trickled to shortstop allowing Cobb to score.
In the nightcap, Gilbert struck out six and walked six in the win.
John Moorefield and Charlie Jackson each had a RBI for York.
