York dropped Irmo 27-6 Friday to remain undefeated.
Ranked No. 3 in the state’s 4A rankings, the Cougars traveled to Irmo for the schools’ first meeting. It was also Reggie Kennedy’s first game in charge of the Yellow Jackets after moving from Sumter, which York beat in its season-opener.
York led 7-6 at the half, but Bobby Carroll’s team took control in the third quarter.
The Cougars converted a blocked punt into a Deshaw Andrews touchdown pass to senior receiver Kyron Schrouder in the left corner of the end zone. A tough, close-range run from senior running back Antonio Davidson made it 20-6 in the visitors’ favor.
York’s Jamar Griffin scooped up a fourth-quarter fumble and ran 75 yards for a defensive touchdown that clinched the win for the Cougars.
York hosts South Pointe next Friday.
