York learned that Friday at District Three Stadium after being run over 43-18 by the Rock Hill Bearcats.
The Bearcats (3-0) ran for 223 yards and three touchdowns in the first half, ending the night with 315 rushing yards.
Dre Williams, who came in to play quarterback in place of starter Corey Wessinger in the second quarter, scored on a 91-yard sprint the first time he touched the ball.
Williams was moved to quarterback this week because Kenterius Hinton, who shares time with Wessinger, was injured last Friday and is out indefinitely. Williams, a starting safety, had six carries for 126 yards. He came in with just under seven minutes left in the half.
"Coach (Joe) Montgomery told me on Monday at practice that I'd be playing some quarterback until Kent gets back,'' Williams said. "I told him it was fine with me, and I'd do the best I could, that my goal any time I touch the ball is to get into the end zone.
"But going 91 yards on my first carry, that was great. I saw an opening and didn't quit running until I crossed the goal line. We made some mistakes tonight that hurt us, but I can't say enough good things about our offensive line.''
Rock Hill put up 29 points in the first half and allowed York only 6. The Bearcats were in scoring position two other times, losing the ball on downs at York's 19 and fumbling at the Cougars' 21 just minutes before halftime.
Wessinger was on target while under center. He completed seven of 11 passes for 120 yards and got the Bearcats on the scoreboard first with a 62-yard touchdown toss to Kirob Sims. Sims was wide open beyond the Cougars' secondary and bulled his way down the left sideline to the end zone.
On Rock Hill's next possession, tailback Arthur Heyward broke loose for a 17-yard gain. A few plays later, Wessinger hooked up with Sims for 12 yards to York's 25. Wessinger ran for 9 yards and Heyward finished the drive with a 4-yard touchdown run. Micah Bucklin booted his second PAT and the Bearcats led 14-0.
There were some bright spots for first-year York coach Mike Propst's Cougars. One was sophomore quarterback Spencer Carroll, who ran for a touchdown and passed for 76 yards against a quick Rock Hill defense. He was pummeled most of the game but kept getting up.
And there was senior receiver Cor'Tavious Heath, who caught six passes for 53 yards. Heath grabbed a swing pass from Carroll late and turned it into an 11-yard TD.
Sophomore tailback Lee Wright ran for 110 yards on 15 carries, including York's first TD on a 4-yard run in the first quarter.
Speed gave the Bearcats their third TD of the opening half. It came on another long run, this one from 43 yards away by Savion Thoms, who splits time with Heyward and ran for 93 yards.
York (0-3) scored the only touchdown of the third quarter, Carroll's 1-yard run. But in the final 12 minutes, Rock Hill's Thoms scored twice and slammed the lid.
"It came down to them being too quick for us and that we were outmanned all night,'' Propst said. "Rock Hill has a very physical team and they took it to us. They smashed us.
"We had a good game plan going in, but Rock Hill never let us get into it. We'll work hard and get better.''
