Rock Hill spoiled Blythewood's Homecoming with a 29-7 victory in the Bearcats' final tune-up before region games start next week.
After a letdown against South Pointe last week, Rock Hill coach Joe Montgomery was relieved his players performed well against Blythewood, especially on special teams and defense.
"This was a crucial game for our record because we're 4-1," Montgomery said. "If you get to 3-2 and have to fight back, it's a lot tougher. You're going to loose some games, and you can't let that carry over to the next week."
"Our kids played good tonight. We worked hard on special teams this week and our kids played well. Special teams, defense, offense. That's the way it's got to work."
Never miss a local story.
Last week against the Stallions, Rock Hill suffered through five turnovers. But against the Bengals Friday night, the Bearcats made a 180-degree turnaround, forcing five turnovers -- 3 fumbles, 2 for touchdowns, and 2 interceptions.
Dre Williams, playing only his third game at quarterback, put the Bearcats ahead 7-0 on Rock Hill's second drive. His 34-yard scoring run was set up after William Killian's 45-yard punt return.
Both teams struggled to generate offense in the first half. But big plays by the Bearcats' defense and special teams gave Rock Hill a 21-0 halftime lead.
Blythewood fumbled three times in the final three minutes of the half.
Rock Hill finished with 144 total yards, but only 54 through the air.
