The Chester Cyclones blew into Bob Jones Stadium Friday night and came away with a 41-21 win over Fort Mill.
Chester, known for its air attack, turned to the running game to defeat the Yellow Jackets. Senior Julius Pendergrass rushed 13 times for 206 yards and four touchdowns.
"We didn't want to put all the pressure on Tevin (Worthy) and Tony (McNeal)," said Chester coach Anthony Sterling, referring to two Cyclones' quarterbacks. "We wanted to use all our horses."
The Jackets hurt themselves in the second half with penalties and turnovers. For the game, the Jackets had two interceptions and lost two fumbles.
"I thought we would be more disciplined than that," said Fort Mill coach Ed Susi. "We played well in the first half. We have to reevaluate some things."
Fort Mill was looking to get its first Region 4-AAA win of the season after dropping last week's region opener to South Pointe.
Friday night was homecoming for the Jackets, and they played to a nearly-packed house. Carmen Chambers was crowned Homecoming Queen.
Fort Mill's offense had success early, driving to the Chester 30 behind a 27-yard run by Nick Raszeja. But the Jackets' drive ended there.
Chester senior Tevin Worthy, who normally is the backup at quarterback, got the start. Senior starter Tony McNeal suffered from some soreness before the game.
