Dozens of people who work at the Moss Justice Center courthouse in York surprised retiring Circuit Judge John C. Hayes III Friday, at the end of his last day of holding court, with a standing ovation. Hayes, a judge since 1991, has mandatory retirement Dec. 31 because he has reached age 72. Hayes will continue as a retired judge on what is called active/retired status, in which he still will be assigned some cases around South Carolina.

Samuel Wilson Sr., who has spent most of adult life in prison for dealing drugs and trying to hire a hit man to kill two Rock Hill, South Carolina police officers, was sentenced to 45 months in prison for ill treatment of animals after dogs were found “suffering, starving and emaciated.”
A Rock Hill school bus carrying students was involved in a wreck around mid-day Thursday on West Main Street, west of Heckle Boulevard. The front end of the bus was damaged, and another vehicle at the scene also had damage. A Rock Hill school spokesman said two students were taken to a hospital with minor injuries. Rock Hill police and fire officials responded to the scene.
Nearly 15 Clover High School students passed out stockings Wednesday afternoon to York County veterans at assisted living centers in Lake Wylie and York. The students say they enjoyed bringing warmth to others during the holidays
The York County Sheriff’s Office is searching for suspects in three recent armed robberies, using surveillance video from the incidents. Investigators are working to see if the three cases are connected. They are a Dec. 13 robbery at a Waffle House on Regent Parkway in Fort Mill, a Dec. 12 robbery at a Kangaroo Express on U.S. 21 in Fort Mill and a Dec. 8 robbery at the Catawba Exrpess off S.C. 5 in the Catawba area.
