Hundreds of dancers competed Friday at the Dance Machine's America's National Dance Championships at South Pointe High School in Rock Hill. The event was hosted by the Rock Hill/York County Convention and Visitor's Bureau. The championships will continue through Sunday.
Winthrop University Board of Trustees chair Karl Folkens said the modest tuition increase stands in contrast to other universities around the state, which have recently announced higher percentage increases. Winthrop will be raising its tuition prices by 2.48 percent starting next semester. The University of South Carolina-Columbia announced they would raise its tuition rates by 3.46 percent starting in the fall.
Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina, the Springs Close Foundation and other groups donated two truckloads of food Wednesday to the Dorothy Day Soup Kitchen and pantry in honor of David Boone, one of the soup kitchen's founders. Charity organizers and volunteers said they wanted to honor Boone — who has cancer — by donating nearly $25,000 worth of food to the kitchen at St. Mary Catholic Church in Rock Hill.

Police in Lancaster have charged three people in connection with a March robbery that left an Indian immigrant store owner dead. Police believe the suspects were planning to "smash an Indian," warrants state. The Rock Hill Indian Association president, Sharad Patel, called that "alarming and frightening" for Indian immigrants.

Republican Ralph Norman of Rock Hill celebrated with hundreds of supporters Tuesday night after winning a special election to fill the South Carolina 5th District Congressional seat. Norman ran against Democrat Archie Parnell of Sumter for the seat vacated by Indian Land's Mick Mulvaney, who joined the Trump administration as White House budget director.
